3 Tips For Taking A Trip During The Rainy Season

While many travel destinations are preferable to visit when the weather is nice, there are certain occasions or locales where it makes sense to go during the rainy season. However, this experience will likely only be enjoyable if you’re adequately prepared.

To help you get to this point, here are three tips for taking a trip during the rainy season to any and all rainy locations.

Choose The Right Destination

Picking the right destination and the right time to visit will play a big role in your trip during the rainy season. If you’re able to pick the right place and visit during the rainy months, you may be able to experience that area in a way that other travelers often miss.

According to Katie Jackson, a contributor to U.S. News and World Report, some of the best places to visit during their rainy season include Costa Rica, Thailand, Turkey, and Oregon. By traveling to these locales during their specific rainy season, you’ll get to enjoy the natural beauty that shines through the misty days and take advantage of lower costs for accommodations, since most tourists plan their trips during drier times.

Be Careful When Spending Time Outside

Just because it’s raining outside doesn’t mean you have to spend all of your time indoors during your vacation. However, you should be careful about the time you spend traveling or the hours you spend outside when it’s wet and rainy.

Greg Rodgers, a contributor to Trip Savvy, shares that many hot and tropical locations can have problems with mosquitoes and other pests when it’s raining, as standing water can be particularly attractive to them. Additionally, rain often brings with it mud, which can be dangerous in the form of mudslides or if your vehicle gets stuck in a very muddy area. So to mitigate these issues from becoming problems for you, make sure you’re careful with where you go outside when it’s raining in these areas.

Pack The Right Clothes

Whether you plan to be inside the entire time or are hoping to venture out into the rain on occasion, you’ll want to make sure that you pack the right clothes for the weather.

According to Mimi Lombardo, a contributor to Travel and Leisure, it’s ideal to bring clothes that will dry quickly when they get wet. Additionally, you’ll want to bring shoes that are either waterproof or that are meant to be worn in some amount of water. And even in warmer locations, you’ll also want a rain jacket to help keep out any chill that might accompany the rain.

If you’re going to be traveling somewhere during its rainy season, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you make the best of this situation.
