Depending on where you are in the world, you may be given certain limitations for how long you are allowed to stay. Even though you may not have intentions of immigrating abroad, immigration officials don’t know that, which is why there are visa rules set in place.
Under no circumstances should you overstay your allowed length of stay in a country. You could not only be faced with hefty fines, but you could be deported and never allowed to re-enter. You’re best respecting the rules the same as you would expect others to recognize your own borders.
Overpacking
It may be tempting to pack everything that you could ever possibly need for your trip. When you’re going to be abroad for a lengthy amount of time, you naturally want to make sure that you have everything that you’ll need.
However, overpacking will only lead to frustration and even theft. When you’re traveling from place to place, you should keep your luggage light and portable. You’ll want to know where your bag is at all times in order to avoid any potential issues, so on your back or in your hands is best.
Carrying Cash
Even though you may want to make sure that you have money in the event of encountering a merchant who doesn’t accept cards, it can be a risky mistake.
Carrying large amounts of cash, particularly in third world countries can be the equivalent of painting a target on your back. If you must use cash, only carry small quantities at a time. You’ll be in much less trouble if it gets lost or stolen.
Dangerous Areas
It’s best to familiarize yourself with the safest areas to hang out in wherever you’re going. Responsible travelers know to check out a few guidebooks before going somewhere so that they have an idea of where they should and shouldn’t go.
Be smart and stick to the areas where you won’t put yourself or others at risk.
